2017 Targa Adelaide
A new format for 2017, the Adelaide Rally ran as a two day short tarmac sprint with all of the special stages under 3km long.
The Adelaide Rally has traditionally been a 4 or 5 day rally but after a hiatus the new promoters have resurrected a scaled back version to make it more viable. The new format wasn't really to our liking as the short stages make it tough to get into the groove, build heat in the tyres and confidence in the grip. didn't help that day one was wet but you can't predict the Adelaide weather.
We ran inside the top 10 most of the event and finished 7th I think (need to check the results) but we did challenge for stage wins on the run through Chain of Ponds with a couple of top 3 runs. Certainly helps to have a little local knowledge and after all this road is our daily commute but we did raise a few eyebrows with our first run and backed it up on the repeat.
2018 looks to bring a return to a more traditional Tarmac Rally event with four days of running and longer stages (up to 14km) so really looking forward to hitting the Adelaide Hills stages again in December (weather permitting...)
